Slab City, CA, is a former military camp that was dismantled in the 50's. While it attracts close to 2000 people in the winter months, the summer is excruciatingly hot, commonly up to 125 degrees, once up to 134. The 150 year round residents are generally unable to leave due to their financial circumstances and make due without running water, electricity, sewage or garbage collection in oppressive heat.
