Joyce Shepler, a year-round resident of Slab City, is showing off her scars from a number of surgeries. She had to get her gall bladder removed, and the doctor who she said was shaky before they put her under, had been at his daughter's graduation party the night before - and wound up nicking her bile duct. She nearly died from post-surgery complications and had to later have surgery for her pancreas as well.
